Annual Conference of GenIUS – Italy’s Journal of Law, Gender and Sexuality

Theme: Trans Rights: The difficult path towards equality
GenIUS – Italy’s premiere Journal of Law, Gender and Sexuality – invites submissions for its 2026 Annual Conference, which will focus on the evolving and critical field of trans rights. The conference aims to bring together scholars, practitioners, activists, and policymakers to explore legal, social, and theoretical perspectives on trans identities and rights. We welcome contributions from law as well as law’s intersections with sociology, political science, philosophy, gender studies, and related fields.

- Growing anti-gender movement and organized backlash against trans rights
- Democratic participation and civic space
- Trans communities in humanitarian emergencies
- Legal recognition of gender identity
- Anti-discrimination law and trans equality
- Trans rights in comparative and international law

- Human rights frameworks and litigation

Submission Guidelines
- Please submit abstracts (max. 300 words) by Friday 17th July 2026
- Please indicate your preferred pronouns and what name you would like to be called (no requirement for birth names)
- Submissions should be sent to: giada.cascio@unipa.it
- AI software will be used for live translation and caption, so feel free to present the paper in
Post-Selection Requirements
- Selected speakers will be asked to submit an extended abstract prior to the conference
- Full papers will be due by the end of 2026
Accepted papers will be considered for publication in the 2027 volume of GenIUS, Italy’s Journal of Law, Gender and Sexuality.
