Research Interests
Over the years, my research focus and I have evolved a lot. I am trained as an Industrial, production, and system engineer from top technical universities in Bangladesh (2005) and Singapore (2008). As a result, I have a quantitative and analytical background with a strong foothold in multicriteria decision-making models, mathematical modelling, and simulation. However, during my PhD studies (2012-2016), I became familiar with qualitative studies and research methods such as case studies, action research, and collaborative management research. Because I am well-trained in both qualitative and quantitative methods (2021- present), I am comfortable designing mixed-method research.
Following are a few topics I am currently doing research on:
- Supply Chain Competitiveness
- Sustainability, Decarbonisation of Supply Chains, and Circular Economy
- Purchasing in Multinational Corporations (MNCs)
- Risk Management
- Humanitarian Logistics听
- Frugal Innovation
- Industry 4.0

Projects

- This project supports Scotland鈥檚 transition to net zero by addressing a key challenge of the circular economy: ensuring that the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) is effectively adopted and used. Despite the delay of DRS implementation until 2027, Scotland continues to face low recycling rates, waste contamination and limited readiness among individuals and organisations. Improving participation in DRS is essential for reducing emissions associated with virgin material extraction, manufacturing and waste disposal.
Bringing together Edinburgh Napier University, the University of 一本道, Keep Scotland Beautiful and Excel Vending, the project will establish Living Labs using Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) on university campuses to test behaviours, incentives and operational challenges in real-world settings. It will also assess readiness across businesses, public sector organisations and communities, identifying barriers and testing engagement strategies to support successful implementation.
The project will deliver an evidence-based framework to help policymakers and delivery partners maximise participation, reduce contamination and improve system performance. By integrating behavioural, technical and operational insights, it will help unlock the full environmental benefits of DRS and accelerate Scotland鈥檚 transition to a low-carbon, circular economy. - 01-Jan-2026 - 30-Jan-2026

- This project will establish a UK-based indoor testing facility to evaluate the performance, durability, and consistency of products manufactured from mixed recycled plastics. The initiative aligns with the Industrial Symbiosis theme by supporting the recovery and higher-value use of waste-derived materials that would otherwise be discarded or downgraded.
The facility will provide independent validation of recycled plastic products currently supplied to the UK construction and landscaping sectors, while also assessing innovative new materials developed through collaboration with European manufacturing partners. By generating reliable UK-based performance data, the project will support compliance with industry standards, increase market confidence, and accelerate the adoption of sustainable alternatives to virgin materials.
Building on an established commercial supply chain for 100% recycled plastic products, the project represents a TRL 6 stage of development. The products are already in active commercial use, and the testing facility will provide the critical evidence needed to support wider deployment, quality assurance, and future product innovation within the circular economy. - 16-Jan-2025 - 27-Jan-2025
